he state of Wisconsin (United States) stands out for its lush forests and lush nature. There, next to a lake, is this country house inspired by the classic cabins, the refuge of the summer getaways of a young family. When they bought the building, from the 60s, it had hardly been renovated since then, so it needed a reform. The project was carried out by architect Susan Nackers Ludwig of LNA Design. The interior design was handled by Victoria Sass of Prospect Refuge Studio, who composed warm and welcoming spaces, what is expected of a holiday home, but with bold touches and unexpected patterns.
The white oak wood, omnipresent, covers walls and ceilings, merging with the environment, warm, natural, cozy … Victoria Sass was choosing pieces, textiles and accessories that enhance those sensations, almost untreated wooden furniture, textiles with soft textures, stones, neutral tones, etc. The entrance is a statement of intent, a wooden box that welcomes; the likewise, is also made of white oak, combined with white marble with brass fittings; the dining room, too, with wood as the protagonist, etc. In the living room is where color and patterns begin to appear. Then, for example, in the children’s rooms the most playful colors triumph, apart from a furniture arrangement -designed to measure- reminiscent of summer camps. In the other textiles with somewhat more intense patterns have also been introduced. Then, in the bathrooms, the interior design studio surprises with tile coverings designed for the occasion by Sass herself, all without losing sight of the tones of the surrounding nature that is, after all, the final reason why the family chose this idyllic holiday retreat.
