1). Statue of Christ in Rio


A 125-foot tall statue of Christ has been erected on a hill in the Tijuca National Park in Rio, Brazil. In the year 1922, the construction work started here. French sculptor Paul Landovsky, Brazilian engineer Heather Costa, French engineer Albert Caquet, and Romanian sculptor Giorge Leonida were involved in that work. The work of this statue, which was created to reflect that Jesus loves everyone, was completed within 9 years.

The weight of this huge statue is 635 tons, made from a combination of limestone and concrete imported from Sweden. The statue of Christ, which beautified the city of Rio for a century, has become a national symbol of Brazil. This design is a wonderful design created in the modern era. Therefore, the statue of Christ in the city of Rio was included among the seven modern wonders named on July 7, 2007.

 

2). Iguazu Falls


This wonderful waterfall created by the Iguazu River is located on the Brazil-Argentina border. This waterfall is made of 275 small waterfalls and has a width of 2700 meters. A part of 1900 meters belongs to Brazil. While the highest waterfall in Iguazu is 82 meters high, several waterfalls exceeding 60 meters can be seen here. The Devil’s Throat waterfall is about 150 meters wide and is the main waterfall in Iguazu. It is a specialty of taking the shape of the English letter U.

Realizing the value of the area where Iguazu Falls is located, the Argentine government took steps to establish a national park in 1934. Brazil followed suit and on January 10, 1939 added an area of 1700 square kilometers and established a national park. Animal species such as toucans, harpy eagles, yellow anacondas, South American tapirs, jaguars, and giant anteaters live in the national park.

Plants such as bromeliads, orchids, palms, peroba rosa, bamboo and liana can be seen there. Considering the importance of this national park, UNESCO declared it as a UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site in 1986.

3). Amazon forest

The Amazon forest, which is considered to be the world’s largest rainforest, is spread over an area of 6.7 million square kilometers. 60% of it belongs to Brazil. The famous Amazon river flows through this vast forest. Fed by 1100 tributaries, the length of this river is 6992 km. It is a place with ninety thousand biodiversity, there are 80000 plant species belonging to different types.

Of these, 40,000 species of plants are considered to be helpful in controlling the global climate and maintaining the water cycle. Therefore, the nickname of the lungs of the earth has been attached to the Amazon forest.

Many animal species live in the Amazon forest. Accordingly, 427 species of mammals, 1800 species of birds, 378 species of snakes, 400 species of amphibians, 5600 species of fish and 1400 species of butterflies have been reported to live here. Currently, many of the most dangerous animal species living in the world have been found in the Amazon forest.

Among them are animals like green anaconda, piranha, electric eel, poison dart frog, bullet ant. Walking in the Amazon jungle is quite dangerous. 4). Chapada Diamantina National Park


This national park is named Chapada Diamantina because of the amazing topographical features of the steep cliffs and the large number of diamonds found in this area in the past. On September 17, 1985, this was declared as a National Park. Spread over an area of 152,142 hectares, this national park has a plateau with a height of about 1000 meters.

A watershed, it feeds the rivers São Francisco, de Contas, and Paraguay. There are several peaks that exceed 1500 meters in this park. This has increased the beauty of this place.

5). Pantanal Wetlands


The famous Pantanal wetland covers an area as large as 42 million acres. It is considered as one of the main wetlands in the world. This wetland is most famous for the variety of animals that live here. 658 species of birds, 1132 species of amphibians, 270 species of fish, 190 species of mammals and 50 species of reptiles have been identified as living here.

Accordingly, this wetland area has become a breeding ground for animals. Although the rainforest cover here is relatively low, the presence of jaguars is a special feature.

 

Extending into Bolivia and Paraguay, this is the largest freshwater wetland ecosystem in the world. In 2000, UNESCO declared this as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
