Choosing the right lighting will correct any flaws in the interior and emphasize all its advantages. Nowadays, it is extremely popular to illuminate the ceiling with an LED strip under the baseboard, which hides the light source from the eyes. At the same time, the ceiling acquires not only a beautiful frame, but also an unusual effect from the combination of soft LED radiation with the texture and color of the ceiling covering.
In this article, we have collected 30 photos with ideas on how to make ceiling lighting with LED strip. Stretch, plasterboard, wooden and painted ceilings with lighting – their final appearance directly depends on which LED strip you choose. Let’s start with this!
Which LED strip to choose for ceiling lighting
The LED strip consists of a self-adhesive base and a top layer on which LEDs are placed at regular intervals. As a rule, it comes in rolls of 5 m, but can be cut into strips of any length at specially marked points. Installing it does not take much time, and the radiation options are almost endless, which makes LED strips a very versatile addition to the interior.
The main thing you should know before choosing an LED strip for ceiling lighting:
- The operating temperature range of LED strips lies in the range from -25 ° C to + 60 ° C;
- Their special features, such as use in wet rooms, are determined by the IP or Ingress Protection rating (IP33 – standard tape, IP 67 – waterproof);
- LED strips are usually rated at 12V and need an appropriate power supply (also called a driver);
- The brightness and other emission modes of the LEDs can be adjusted using a special dimmer;
- Several lanes can be powered from one driver at the same time, while their total power must not exceed 90% of the rated power of the driver.
For example, if you install 5 LED strips under the ceiling with a length of 1 m each with a power consumption of 3 watts / meter, then their total power consumption will be 15 watts. This means that the rated power of the driver must be at least 10% higher, that is, at least 17 watts.
The appearance that the ceiling lighting with an LED strip will have primarily depends on the size and color of the LEDs on the strip, as well as on their number per 1 meter of strip. Factors such as:
- The angle of the tape relative to the ceiling;
- The distance between the skirting board and the ceiling covering;
- The color, texture and reflectivity of this coating.
The color of the LED strip under the ceiling baseboard will set the mood and decorate your room. The warm light yellow shade is ideal for living rooms, bedrooms, hallways and other living spaces. Cool white with a blue tint color will favorably emphasize the design of your kitchen or bathroom. The RGB LED strip light is customizable with a remote control and can produce a wide range of colors.
Hidden ceiling lighting with LED strip under the baseboard
Hidden LED lighting under the ceiling plinth can be easily combined with other ceiling lamps – chandeliers, pendant, overhead and spotlights. The answer to the question of what is better to combine it with depends to a greater extent on the height of the ceiling. When it is low, it is better for you to give preference to surface-mounted and recessed lamps, when high – chandeliers and pendant lamps. In any case, the addition of a backlit ceiling plinth will visually “raise” the ceiling and increase the size of the room.
The effect of the use of LED lighting will be enhanced if you combine it with the glossy or satin texture of the stretch ceiling, which helps to beautifully dissipate the light.
Also quite interesting in the interior can look an unusual combination of shades of the ceiling and led lighting, for example, blue and orange, white and red, as in the following photos.
Finally, LED lighting is a great way to emphasize the unusual shape of the ceiling and add coziness if it is too high. It works especially well with mansard and domed ceilings.
