1). Jaegersborg Deer Park

King Frederik III ruled Denmark from 1648-1670. According to his idea, this Jægersborg Deer Park was created in 1669. In 1670, King Frederik died suddenly, and the construction of the garden stopped midway. After that, the rulers who came to power finished its construction work.

At that time, the deer captured from different parts of the country with the support of the state were kept in this park. Spread over 11 square kilometers, this park has forest areas, lakes and small watercourses, so deer have got the opportunity to roam freely.

It has been recorded that approximately 2200 deer live in Jægersborg Deer Park. Among them, 1600 belong to the deer species Puran. The deer species disappeared from Denmark during the Ice Age. In the 13th century, the deer species was reintroduced to Denmark.

In addition to fallow deer, red deer and 300 sika deer each live here. Red deer migrated to Denmark about 10,000 years ago. Likewise, Zika deer, native to East Asia, were introduced to Denmark in the 20th century.

It is said that in the distant past, the kings who expelled Denmark used to engage in punitive activities around this park. In 1960 deer hunting was completely banned in the park.

The hunting lodge, which was built to rest the kings who were engaged in the Dada Keli, can still be seen in this park. In 2015, this wonderful Deer Park was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site because it is a site of historical and natural importance.

 

2). Fredericksburg Royal Palace


Many centuries ago, Denmark was ruled by various kings and queens. Many royal palaces built in those eras are still located in Denmark. Among them, the Fredericksburg Royal Palace located in the Hillerod area has a special place. It is because of its beauty. Situated on three islands in Castle Lake, this castle was a fortress occupied by King Frederick II in the 16th century.

King Christian IV, who later reigned in Denmark, modified the fort and created this palace in the early 17th century. The construction of the palace was done according to the Baroque style of architecture. A large part of this palace was destroyed due to a severe fire in 1859. After that, the rulers of the time worked to recreate the palace. Today, the newly built palace can be seen here.

It took nearly two decades to restore the palace that was destroyed by fire. Christian Jacobsen, a Danish philanthropist, provided great support for that.

The public also raised funds for the construction of the palace. The royals of the country decided to declare the newly built palace as a museum on April 5, 1878. It was opened to the public on February 1, 1882.

Inside the museum there is a collection of old paintings, ornaments, goods, clothes, a church, ornately designed halls etc. used by the royals who lived in Denmark. Through that museum, the country’s history is displayed to the world.
