Since 2016, several “nude restaurants” that have opened in several countries, i.e. restaurants where customers can come completely naked to get food and alcohol, have had to close down within a short period of time. Many think that it was caused by certain critical ideologies regarding nudity even in open-minded societies.

Bunyadi – London

One of such shuttered restaurants, Bunyadi, was recorded as the first nudist restaurant to open in London, UK. It was opened in June 2016 and was only able to run for a short period of three months. This restaurant was opened by saying that it would provide customers with the opportunity to enjoy the wonders of nature to the fullest, and its customers had the opportunity to stay there completely naked.

No lights were turned on in the restaurant as it wanted to give priority to naturalness. Instead, customers had to enjoy the food by candlelight. It had a simple menu and sold both meat and vegetarian dishes. It is a peculiarity that employees and customers are prohibited from using mobile phones inside the restaurant.

Naturalness first

There was no electricity or gas, so food was prepared using wood-fired ovens. Pottery plates and bowls were used to serve food and wine.

Decreased income

In the early days of its opening, the restaurant had a large number of customers and therefore customers had to wait for months to reserve a table there. At one point, the number of customers who booked seats there was more than 30,000. However, after about three months, the number of customers there dropped drastically, so the owners decided to close it down.

It was recently reported that its owners are hoping to open a nude restaurant again. However, since Bunyadi’s closure, there has been no significant response to the need for such a restaurant and since then no such restaurant has been opened, it is uncertain whether they will open a restaurant again.

Inato – Spain

Opened in 2017 in Granadilla de Adona, Spain, Inato Restaurant was the first nudist restaurant to open in Spain. An Italian businessman found out about the Bunyadi restaurant in London and started this restaurant. There was no electricity and candles and flashlights were used. Spanish food was widely sold there, and people who wanted it were able to buy food with aphrodisiac ingredients.

To protect the privacy of the customers who come here, screens made of bamboo sheets were used between the tables. Customers arriving in private vehicles were allowed to enter the restaurant naked, while other customers were provided with facilities to remove their clothes inside the restaurant. A few months after its opening, the number of customers dropped significantly, so the owner decided to close it down.

O’Natural – Paris

O’Natural, the first nude restaurant to open in Paris that allowed customers to eat and drink completely naked, has also closed down. Many customers expressed positive feedback about the restaurant, which opened in November 2017, through social media networks such as Facebook. In Facebook ratings it was 4.8/5.

The tables in the restaurant were separated from each other by a large white screen, and many people gave positive feedback about the experience they had there.
