In connection with the current trend of turning to the art deco and Art Nouveau styles in interior design, which originated in the 20th century, the use of leather as a finishing material has gained extraordinary popularity. Chic and luxury in the interior are again at the peak of fashion. Moreover, it should be noted that the use of leather is by no means limited to furniture upholstery. Now it can even be used for walls, ceiling and floor decoration, as well as for individual elements in the interior to create spectacular decorative motifs.
Leather furniture
Leather furniture upholstery is the most traditional way to use this decorative material. The furniture is upholstered with both natural material and artificial. Usually, sofas, armchairs, chair seats, beds, stools and poufs are produced with leather upholstery. Such furniture in the interior always looks spectacular and gives a special nobility and elegance.
Regarding the colors used, the most common are black, brown (especially coffee shade), gray, as well as pastel colors. The black and white combination is also no less popular, as is the combination of red, beige and yellow colors.
At the same time, the style can be absolutely any and even the most unexpected. Today, a pattern or embroidery is made on the leather, it is decorated with beads, rhinestones, wooden or metal elements or fur – the imagination of designers is not limited. In addition, the leather can be embossed, varnished, perforated, can consist of strips and braids with seams outside, and to give a fashionable antique look, upholstered furniture is decorated with nails with large hats.
The original way of using leather in the manufacture of furniture
Nowadays, when everything is developing and does not stand still, leather is used not only as upholstery for furniture – designers have gone further. Now this beautiful material is used to decorate countertops, legs of dining tables, to decorate chests of drawers, cabinets, cabinets, doors, chairs – and for anything, up to leather refrigerators and leather bookshelves.
At the same time, only high-quality fabric is used for these purposes (natural patinated or waxed leather with a special impregnation that protects it from moisture). Methods of using leather are different: objects can be with a full leather fit, or only certain parts of them can be decorated. In general, leather goes well with various materials, for example, such as natural wood, glass and chrome-plated metal.
Leather as a finishing material for walls and ceilings
Quite often today, designers turn to the technique of leather decoration of walls and ceilings. To do this, there are even leather wallpaper and leather tiles, however, not yet in any store, but interest in this material is growing rapidly. And this type of decoration is used for interiors of classical and ethnic styles. The most common way is to imitate the skin of an ostrich or crocodile. Fragments of natural and artificial leather can also be combined.
Ceiling coverings made of crumpled leather, as well as wall coverings, look very impressive. However, you should still carefully approach the issue of decorating the walls with leather, so as not to get excessive pretentiousness. It is best to start decorating one wall – this will allow you to take a closer look at this material.
Leather wallpaper is available in rolls or vinyl-based tiles are produced. Both ceiling and wall coverings have a different texture of dressing, colors, for example, they can be with volumetric embossing or with patterned painting. By the way, there are also ceramic tiles, completely covered with leather or decorated with individual leather elements. It is usually used to decorate the interior of the kitchen, corridor or bathroom.
Leather as a floor covering
First of all, I would like to note that the skin is a “living” material. In order to test this, walk on the leather floor and you will find amazing and unique sensations. After all, leather has always been the privilege of kings during the Renaissance. In addition, testing has shown that this material has excellent strength, wear resistance and water resistance, which confirms its absolute reliability.
Usually, leather flooring is used in rooms such as a library, personal office or bedroom. However, it is always worth remembering that smoking in such rooms is strictly prohibited, because the skin perfectly absorbs all odors. The leather floor is absolutely not suitable for hallways, for kitchens and children’s rooms, i.e. for areas with active use, because leather is an expensive material.
It is also very common in interiors to use leather rugs with the most original structure, for example, in the form of sheared suede or twisted and braided ribbons and cords, or simply in the form of a smooth surface. By the way, combined carpets made of leather and fur are extraordinarily spectacular.
Leather as accessories
Leather accessories today can be found in a wide variety, for example, decorative leather baskets or lamps with shades covered with leather.
In addition, leather can be used to decorate door handles and cabinets, as well as vases, ashtrays, curtains, blinds, etc. – all this gives the interior a special style. Currently, with the development of technologies for processing and dressing leather, this material has become generally quite widely used. Leather can be covered not only with furniture, but also with household appliances, computers, phones, etc., which allows you to turn an ordinary thing into a “living” one, as well as make it an exclusive item, and give the interior a special chic and warmth.
