The living room is, of course, the heart of any home. After all, it is here that guests gather and the owners of the living space rest. In the hall there is always a center of festive decoration for any celebration. Therefore, the atmosphere of the main room should be appropriate and take into account all these factors, as well as the desires of each family member. At the same time, simplicity and unobtrusiveness dominate in modern interiors, which does not interfere with the original design of the walls in the living room.
Materials for design
No matter how original the interior is, the wall covering and décor are made of quite standard materials. However, modern production is not limited to a couple of items, such as paper wallpaper and paint. Among the large number of finishes, first of all, you should choose based on the conditions of the room, the condition of the walls and the funds that are planned to be spent on repairs.
Decorative plaster
The finish is suitable for walls with irregularities and roughness. The material hides minor flaws, for which you will have to pay a considerable amount. Decorative plaster is a durable material. Subject to restoration by painting. It does not turn yellow and does not fade, if you do not violate the rules of operation.
Liquid wallpaper
The composition of the material contains acrylic, which allows the wallpaper to lie evenly on the walls. The disadvantages of surfaces cannot be hidden with liquid wallpaper. The material is eco-friendly, easy to use, more than the previous one is available. However, the range of liquid wallpaper leaves much to be desired. There are only about 7 types of mixtures on the market.
Paper wallpaper
Paper wallpaper is the most affordable option for covering walls. It is presented in a very wide range, does not require professional skills for gluing. Wallpaper can have a textured or washing surface. Of the minuses – compliance to mechanical stress.
Vinyl (non-woven) wallpaper
The material is easy to fit on the surface, has many colors, dries quickly. It can serve as a basis for décor. However, vinyl is not an eco-friendly type of finish, which has a pungent odor that can disappear for a very long time and even harm health.
Paint
Tried and tested finishes. It is applied over wallpaper, plaster and other finishing materials. Painted walls serve for a long time, are easy to clean and are subject to restoration.
Panel
A contradictory solution for décor, since in contrast to various shapes, textures and colors, there is a high cost. The finish can hide soundproofing materials and small irregularities. At the same time, the panels themselves are easily exposed to mechanical damage and do not tolerate temperature changes. Most often, panels are used to accentuate one of the walls.
Textile
Suitable for classic and modern interiors. They create a luxurious atmosphere, but they are not cheap and easily get dirty.
Among other things, before décor, you need to take into account the area of the room. In a small hall, you should not decorate the walls with numerous décor or a large pattern on the wallpaper. Better yet, work on the visual perception of the living room area with the help of color.
Wall color
When choosing a shade of coating for walls, you should take into account the degree of illumination of the room, the style and size of the living room. In addition, the cold colors of the walls: blue, green and gray will help maintain the color balance with windows facing the sunny side. In a less lit room, you should use warm shades, including red, orange, yellow.
If the emphasis in the room is on furniture, then the color palette of the walls should be neutral. Pastel colors will cope with the task. With light furniture, surfaces can be decorated with deep and bright colors.
Finally, it will be possible to increase the area of the room with the help of a light range of coatings. Dark tones should only be used in large areas and when there are multiple windows.
White, gray, black, shades of beige and light brown are neutral colors and can be complemented by bright décor or a multi-colored pattern.
Stucco molding behind the TV
Behind the TV, as well as above the fireplace, it is permissible to finish with decorative stone or brick tiles. For the screen, if space allows, you can make a niche of drywall and decorate it with wallpaper, paint, mosaic or wood panels. It is better not to overload the wall with the projector with unnecessary details and patterns. Along the contour of the niche with the TV, it is possible to make stucco. This type of finish looks beautiful in large areas and can be painted in white, gold, beige or peach. Elegant stucco moldings are most often presented in the form of monogram drawings and floral prints. In a modern interior, stucco molding is often combined with photo wallpaper.
Accent painting
Unlike a wall with a fireplace and a TV, the painting is done on the surface behind a soft corner or sofa. It is better to trust such décor to professionals. Moreover, painting is also often combined with stucco.
For artistic painting, it is better to choose images in pleasant shades that will not “press” on the inhabitants of the living room. And if the design involves a bright pattern, then all the rest of the decoration should be done in a calm style.
Painting can be done independently, using a stencil for this. On a free wall in this technique, it is easy to make an image of a tree branch or a flower bouquet. Also, a drawing of a family tree with a photo of family members hung on its branches will look original.
Leather trim
Such décor cannot be called affordable or classic. It requires a large area of the room and should be finished only on one wall or on part of it. The principle of décor is familiar to those who were once engaged in door upholstery. In addition to the leather itself, decorative nails will be needed for décor.
Additional décor
If you need to spend a significant amount and time to cover the walls, then its neutral design will allow you to use additional décor. Its advantage is that you can even make such a design with your own hands.
The interior is often used:
- Portraits, landscapes and modular paintings remain the most popular wall décor in the living room. Most often they are placed on an empty wall behind the soft part. The works of famous artists are hung in the piers, between the windows, under the stairs. In the modern interior, paintings of different sizes are used.
- Panel. Can be purchased in the store or performed independently. The panel can be three-dimensional or painted. The panels are made even from the remnants of wallpaper, creating real masterpieces. Floral drawings are popular in this area.
- Fresh flowers. Compositions with climbing plants or several types of flowers in pots on hanging or floor stands are especially beautiful.
You need to understand that the original design depends only on your imagination or the professionalism of the designer. Do not rush to bring creative ideas to life, it is better to think over the interior to the smallest detail. To begin with, you can try yourself as a decorator on individual details, such as paintings, panels, paper compositions or a small painting with a stencil.
