This member of the famous Lloyd Wright dynasty, Eric Lloyd Wright is known for having given his personal stamp, seasoned with emotion and plastic eccentricity, to the modernist doctrine with which he grew up. This approach is perfectly reflected in this house, Wystrach-Adams Residence, a masterpiece of light and bold volumes, for sale for 2.89 million dollars (around 2 million in euros) through Historic Real Estate. Located in La Crescenta, Los Angeles County, and built in 1992, the house is surrounded by a magnificent mountain panorama, which inspired the curved lines, present both inside and out. From the outside, what immediately catches the eye is the rounded roof, which protrudes above the two levels that make up the house. Large balconies and windows anticipate what represents one of the pillars of the project: its symbiotic connection with the surrounding nature.
Upon entering you receive a monumental double-height space, sculpted in concrete, in which not only the walls are gently curved, but also the staircase, the furniture and even the large oblique skylight at the top. The entire design is characterized by the softness of the lines, which are combined with organic materials to describe fluid and harmonious spaces, in which no detail is left to chance.
Wood predominates, whose warmth mitigates the roughness of raw concrete, marble and corten steel, also very present throughout the project. Then there are bright copper accents and tiles in vivid tones, to create a composite image, where tactility and authenticity are the common thread. Custom-made furniture follows the shapes of the rooms, embracing them. Among them, an oval double-height concrete chimney stands out, which rises as a totem to “direct the transit” between the different rooms of the living area. The vaulted ceilings and exposed beams, always curvilinear, form the backdrop of open spaces, where light occupies a central place. Glass doors and windows, as well as generous skylights, are distributed throughout the house, making the house a body as resounding and robust as transparent.
