nity is strength. And, as proof of this, the reform of this 70 square meter apartment in the center of Bilbao in which the interior designer Raquel González and Katrin Subinas, from the Subinas Dueñas architecture studio, have collaborated. “The building where the house is located is one of those buildings that unfortunately are increasingly scarce from the Eixample of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries that, without having details of great stridency, keeps significant elements of Bilbao architecture, a quality understood perfectly by the owners”, explain from the architecture studio.
The owner couple wanted the apartment to be as open as possible, with a large common area, a space that served to telework from home and as an eventual bedroom for visitors, a bathroom and a bedroom for them with dressing room area. The architects redistributed the floor, creating a large day area with kitchen, dining room and living room in the sunniest part of the house, and a night area with the bedroom in the quietest part of the house. Separating both areas we find the bathroom.
Once the foundation was laid, it was time to furnish it. The owners wanted to preserve the natural color of the wood of the ceiling, an element with a lot of presence in the project, so the interior designer Raquel González opted for a contemporary, fresh and cozy style so as not to overload the environment and a chromatic palette in white, beige and neutral tones, with some touch of black, very consistent with the color of the wood. At the entrance we find a small hall very used, delimited thanks to thekitchen island, in which the interior designer has installed a bar for more informal meals.
The interior designer has distributed the furniture in such a way that it delimits the spaces, but does not close them. We found many original ideas in the project, such as a multipurpose living room with sofa bed and two panels with mirrors designed by Raquel that become a table to be able to telework. The shelving of the living room, also designed by him, which houses a steam fireplace and by hiding it behind a door and in the bedroom, acoustically isolates the bed. The result is open, functional and very welcoming.
